“I hardly hear from you!” I remember hearing these
words from a co-worker while on a remote team. It
wasn’t that I was reserved or quiet. It was that we barely
saw each other. At the time, video calls weren’t popular
at my remote job, so we really didn’t see each other. I
knew he wouldn’t be saying that if we were in office.
“Around 62 percent of employees
aged 22 to 65 say they work
remotely at least occasionally.”

So many employees are faced with challenges while
working for companies, both remotely and in person. People still want to feel valued and appreciated.
Often the top issue is figuring out how to have good
well-being while working in that environment. Many
organizations lose money because well-being is a bottom
priority. It should be a top priority because people will
be willing to work with you long-term if you show that
you care.
Because “remote” is a new environment for many,
you should take time to realize the major differences
in a new setting.
People have different strengths and
weaknesses, and these strengths can be magnified
depending on the environment. An employee that
excels working in person may struggle in a remote
environment. If you are the employer/leader, be aware
of these possible changes early on so you can plan for
them and be ready before they happen.
Of course, we have technology that helps us collaborate, but you still can’t see and talk to employees
as much as you may like to. Often, we may forget how
much in-person interactions mean to us. Of course,
we get to see if team members are actually doing their
work, but we also get to know more about how they are
feeling through non-verbal communication.
Emails can provide us with only so much information—which
can often be misinterpreted if not written clearly and
effectively. We want to be proactive when it comes to
working with our teams because it can lead to long-term results and happy employees.
Well-being and employee satisfaction are key.
Sometimes people can leave the company for unknown
reasons. We want to do our part and keep them
involved and make it a point to understand how they
feel about our organization.
